Pune Traffic Police Amass Rs 3.83 Crore in Fines Through Citizen-Led App Initiative

In a significant crackdown on traffic indiscipline, the Pune Traffic Police have levied fines totaling Rs 3.83 crore against 1,32,485 motorists for various violations over the past three months. This enforcement drive has been bolstered by active citizen participation through the dedicated Pune Traffic Police (PTP) application.

Citizen Empowerment via Digital Tool

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar highlighted the role of the PTP app, stating, "The Pune Traffic Police application can be used by citizens to upload photographs of vehicles involved in different types of traffic offences. Based on these submissions, fines are generated." So far, 93,190 individuals have downloaded the application, enabling widespread community involvement in maintaining road safety.

Recognition for Top Contributors

At a recent function, citizens who uploaded the highest number of genuine traffic violation reports through the PTP app were felicitated. The police awarded a first prize of Rs 50,000, a second prize of Rs 25,000, and a third prize of Rs 15,000 to incentivize and acknowledge their efforts.

One award-winning citizen shared their motivation, explaining, "I was disturbed by motorists driving on footpaths or parking in no-parking zones. Earlier, I used to repeatedly call the police. After downloading the application, I understood its features and began uploading photographs of vehicles that repeatedly violated traffic rules."

Enhanced Police Accountability and Efficiency

Commissioner Kumar emphasized the transformative impact of the app, noting, "We will not tolerate indiscipline on city roads, and it is encouraging to see citizens contributing to our efforts. With citizens' participation through the application, the Pune police have fined 1,32,485 motorists, generating a total of Rs 3.83 crore." He added, "The application has enhanced the capacity of the police and made us more accountable," underscoring how technology is streamlining enforcement and fostering public trust.

This initiative marks a proactive step towards safer roads in Pune, leveraging digital innovation to combat traffic violations effectively.
