Pune Youth Found Dead After Alleged Assault on Student Over Marriage Rejection
In a tragic incident in Junnar, Pune, a 22-year-old youth allegedly attacked a 19-year-old college student with a sharp weapon on Wednesday morning after she rejected his marriage proposal. The accused was later discovered dead, hanging from a tree on a nearby hillock.
Details of the Assault and Victim's Condition
The student, a resident of a village in Junnar taluka, lives in a state government-run ladies' hostel in the area. According to inspector Kiran Awachar of the Junnar police, the accused, also from the same village, had been stalking the victim for several months and pressuring her to marry him.
On Wednesday around 9:30 am, as the student left her hostel for college, the accused stopped her and assaulted her with a sharp weapon, causing serious injuries. She was initially taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital (YCMH) in Pimpri. Her condition is now reported as stable.
Police Investigation and Discovery of the Accused
Following the assault, the police registered a case of attempted murder and launched a search operation for the accused. The local crime branch joined the investigation, and CCTV footage revealed the accused's motorcycle in the Ganeshkhind area of Junnar taluka.
Police teams conducted a search on a nearby hillock, where they first located the motorcycle. Subsequently, the body of the accused was found hanging from a tree. A case of accidental death has been registered with the Otur police.
Preliminary Findings and Aftermath
Inspector Awachar stated that preliminary investigations suggest the attack occurred after the student rejected the marriage proposal. After assaulting her, the accused fled to the Ganeshkhind area, where he is believed to have ended his life.
This incident has shocked the local community, highlighting issues of stalking and violence against women. Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding both the assault and the death.
