Pune Youth Brutally Murdered by Gang in Yerawada, Police Probe Dispute Link
In a shocking incident of violence, an 18-year-old youth was brutally hacked to death by a gang of seven to eight youngsters in Pune's Yerawada area. The attack occurred around 12:15 AM on Wednesday at Panchashilnagar, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Victim Identified as Gaurav Telangi
The Vishrantwadi police have identified the deceased as Gaurav Telangi, a resident of Narhe. According to police reports, Telangi's friend lodged a formal complaint detailing the horrific attack. The complainant claimed that he and other friends heard what sounded like a gunshot during the incident, with one suspect reportedly carrying a firearm.
However, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-IV) Chilumula Rajnikanth provided clarification on this aspect. "The police are verifying the complainant's claim about hearing a gunshot," Rajnikanth stated. "We, however, did not find an empty cartridge at the spot. The post-mortem report has also confirmed that there were no bullet injuries on Telangi's body."
Past Dispute Emerges as Possible Motive
Investigations have revealed that Telangi had a history of conflict with one of the suspects. The DCP explained that this dispute originated when Telangi was residing in Shivajinagar before shifting to Narhe approximately one year ago. Both Telangi and his alleged murderers have previous cases registered against them with the Shivajinagar police, including charges of attempt to murder and rioting.
"We suspect that the suspects plotted Telangi's murder," the DCP stated, indicating that the attack appeared to be premeditated rather than a spontaneous act of violence.
Detailed Account of the Attack
According to the police complaint, Telangi had informed his friend on Tuesday afternoon about his plans to attend a program organized in Vishrantwadi to commemorate Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's birth anniversary. Around 10 PM, Telangi, the complainant, and several friends reached Panchshilnagar in Yerawada, where they parked their vehicles because the road ahead was closed for traffic.
A police officer from Vishrantwadi station provided a chilling account of what followed: "Around 12:15 AM on Wednesday, when they returned to the spot where they had parked the vehicles, the suspects attacked Telangi with sharp weapons. When Telangi started running away, they chased him and assaulted him. They also bludgeoned him with cement blocks."
Chaos and Aftermath
The violent attack created panic at the scene, with Telangi's friends and passersby fleeing in different directions to escape the assailants. After the suspects left the area, Telangi's friends returned to find him critically injured. They immediately transported him to Sassoon General Hospital in an autorickshaw, but despite medical intervention, Telangi succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The police have made significant progress in identifying the perpetrators. "The complainant has given us the names of three people out of the seven to eight suspects," the officer confirmed. "We have formed specialized teams to trace and apprehend them."
This brutal murder has highlighted ongoing concerns about gang violence in certain areas of Pune, with police intensifying their investigation to bring all those responsible to justice.
