Punjab Businessman Found Dead in SUV; Family Rejects Police Suicide Theory

In a tragic incident that has sparked controversy, Gurpreet Singh 'Garry', a 29-year-old local businessman from Bathinda, was discovered dead with a gunshot wound to his forehead inside his SUV on Wednesday afternoon. The vehicle was located near Pandori village along the busy Moga-Jalandhar highway, sending shockwaves through the community.

Conflicting Accounts Emerge in Investigation

While police authorities have preliminarily concluded that Garry committed suicide using his licensed weapon, his family has vehemently rejected this theory. They assert that the young entrepreneur had previously received extortion threats, leading to security measures being implemented for his protection.

Kulwant Singh, Garry's father, provided chilling details to media representatives. "He had gone to get his SUV serviced," Singh explained. "When he stopped answering our calls, we became increasingly worried. Using the vehicle's GPS tracking system, our employees located the SUV and found Garry slumped unconscious in the driver's seat."

The businessman was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical professionals declared him brought dead upon arrival. Garry, who was married and father to two young children, owned a prominent clothing showroom in Dharamkot within Moga district.

Security Arrangements Under Scrutiny

The family's claims highlight significant concerns about security protocols. They revealed that due to previous extortion threats, Garry had been provided with a police gunman for protection. However, on the fateful day of his death, this security personnel was notably absent.

Moga SP (Investigations) Bal Krishan Singla acknowledged to TOI that preliminary investigations point toward suicide. "Our initial findings indicate Garry shot himself with his licensed weapon," Singla stated, while confirming that family members had mentioned the businessman was experiencing significant stress.

The police officer provided additional context, noting that Garry had received a threat approximately over a year ago, prompting the assignment of a policeman as security. However, Singla emphasized that there were no active threats at the time of the incident.

Political Reactions Amplify Controversy

The case has quickly escalated into a political issue, with prominent opposition figures questioning the state's law and order situation. Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, Pratap Singh Bajwa, and Shiromani Akali Dal functionary Bikram Singh Majithia both took to social media platforms to express their concerns.

In separate posts, the political leaders asserted that Garry was killed rather than having committed suicide, raising serious questions about safety and governance in Punjab. Their interventions have added considerable pressure on law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation.

The conflicting narratives between official police statements and family allegations, combined with political scrutiny, have created a complex scenario that demands careful examination. As investigations continue, the community awaits answers about the circumstances surrounding this young businessman's untimely death.
