Chandigarh: Leader of the opposition in the Punjab assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Saturday said the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on AAP minister Sanjeev Arora and his subsequent arrest "once again exposed the serious corruption allegations surrounding the ruling Aam Aadmi Party" in Punjab.
Bajwa's Allegations Against AAP
Bajwa said this was not an isolated case. He alleged that several senior AAP leaders and individuals close to the Punjab government had repeatedly come under the scanner of investigative agencies.
"The people of Punjab were promised honest and transparent governance, but instead they were looted by leaders of the ruling AAP. Every time corruption allegations emerge, AAP leaders conveniently hide behind the excuse of 'political vendetta' instead of answering direct questions," said the Congress leader.
Questioning AAP's Innocence Claim
Bajwa questioned why top AAP functionaries continued to face investigations if the party claims complete innocence. "The repeated appearance of senior AAP leaders in corruption-related investigations cannot simply be dismissed as a coincidence or conspiracy. Punjab deserves clear answers from chief minister Bhagwant Mann and the AAP leadership," he said.
Timing of ED Actions Questioned
The senior leader also questioned the BJP-led Union government and central agencies, stating that they must also answer tough questions regarding the timing of these actions. "If investigative agencies had credible information and evidence for years, then why was action delayed for four years? Why was Punjab allowed to suffer while alleged corruption flourished unchecked? Delayed action raises genuine concerns about political timing and selective use of agencies," said the Qadian legislator.
The LoP further said Punjab deserved transparency, accountability and clean governance instead of political drama, blame games and selective action. He demanded that both the AAP government in Punjab and the BJP-led Centre come clean before the people and ensure that justice is delivered without fear or favour.
