Punjab Police Intensifies War Against Gangsterism with Public-First Strategy
In a decisive move to combat organized crime, the Punjab Police has launched an extensive statewide campaign targeting gangster networks and criminal activities. Khanna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Darpan Ahluwalia has announced a multi-pronged approach that emphasizes community involvement and confidential information sharing as key components in this fight against crime.
Confidential Helpline and Substantial Rewards Announced
Dr Ahluwalia revealed that the police have established a dedicated anti-gangster helpline - 93946-93946 - where citizens can provide reliable information about gangsters, their associates, or any criminal activities with complete confidentiality. The SSP assured that the identity of informants will remain fully protected and their safety will be guaranteed, addressing potential concerns about retaliation.
To further encourage public participation, the police have announced rewards of up to Rs 10 lakh for credible information that leads to the arrest of gangsters. This substantial financial incentive is designed to motivate people to come forward without hesitation, recognizing that valuable intelligence often comes from community members.
Recent Police Actions and the Need for Deeper Cooperation
According to Dr Ahluwalia, Punjab Police has already achieved significant successes in recent months through several major operations against gangsterism. These actions have resulted in:
- The arrest of dangerous criminals involved in organized crime
- The dismantling of established gangster networks
- The recovery of illegal weapons and contraband
Despite these achievements, the SSP emphasized that deeper public cooperation is essential to completely eliminate criminal networks from their roots. She explained that when citizens actively support law enforcement efforts, the morale of criminals weakens significantly, making the broader goal of maintaining peace and harmony more achievable.
Collective Responsibility and Social Awareness
Dr Ahluwalia made it clear that tackling gangsters and criminals is not solely a police responsibility but represents a collective responsibility of society. She appealed directly to residents of the district to raise their voices against crime without fear and to work collaboratively with police authorities to help make Punjab safe, peaceful, and crime-free.
The SSP also highlighted the importance of social awareness initiatives aimed at preventing youth from being drawn into criminal activities. Creating an environment free of fear and providing guidance to those at risk of criminal involvement has been identified as a central goal of the comprehensive campaign.
Immediate Action and Long-Term Security Goals
Dr Ahluwalia assured the public that police would act immediately on every piece of information received through the helpline or other channels. She stated unequivocally that no criminal would be spared in this intensified effort to strengthen law and order across the state.
The comprehensive campaign is expected to not only disrupt existing criminal operations but also enhance the sense of security among citizens. By combining robust police action with meaningful public participation, authorities aim to create sustainable mechanisms for crime prevention that will benefit communities throughout Punjab for years to come.
