Punjab Police Bust Cross-Border Narco-Terror Network in Amritsar
Punjab Police Bust Narco-Terror Network in Amritsar

In a significant crackdown on cross-border criminal activities, Punjab Police have successfully dismantled a narco-terror network operating in the Amritsar region. The operation led to the recovery of a substantial cache of illicit items, including 42.9 kg of heroin, four hand grenades, and one Star-mark pistol along with 46 live cartridges. These items were discovered in the fields of a village in Amritsar, highlighting the ongoing threats posed by such networks in border areas.

Intelligence-Driven Operation Leads to Major Bust

Suhail Qasim Mir, the senior superintendent of police (SSP) for Amritsar Rural, provided details on Wednesday, revealing that the consignment was delivered via drones from across the international border. This method of smuggling underscores the sophisticated tactics employed by criminal elements to evade detection and transport illegal goods into the country.

Interception and Recovery in Oothian Village

Acting on intelligence generated through village defence committees, a police team intercepted suspects who were ferrying the items on a motorcycle in Oothian village. The SSP explained that the accused abandoned the bike along with the consignment and fled towards adjoining agricultural fields, taking advantage of the darkness and challenging terrain. Despite these obstacles, police teams launched a swift search operation, leading to the successful recovery of the narcotics, arms, and explosives.

Detentions and Legal Actions

Subsequent investigations resulted in the detention of two individuals, both residents of Amritsar, who are believed to be linked to the network. A case has been registered under sections 21 and 25 of the NDPS Act, as well as sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, at the Rajasansi police station in Amritsar Rural. This legal action marks a crucial step in holding perpetrators accountable and disrupting their operations.

Ongoing Investigation and Future Steps

The SSP emphasized that an intensive investigation is currently underway to identify and apprehend the accused, as well as to trace others connected to the smuggling racket. This effort is part of a broader strategy to enhance security measures and prevent similar incidents in the future, ensuring the safety and integrity of the region.

This bust not only highlights the vigilance of Punjab Police but also the critical role of community intelligence in combating cross-border threats. As authorities continue their probe, further developments are expected to shed light on the extent of this narco-terror network and its implications for national security.
