Punjab Police Cracks Down on International Narcotics and Arms Network
In a significant breakthrough, the Hoshiarpur police have dismantled an inter-state and foreign-linked narcotics and illegal arms module, apprehending four key operatives. The operation resulted in the seizure of a substantial 9.925 kilograms of heroin, two .30-bore foreign-made pistols, eight magazines, and 40 live cartridges, marking a major victory in the fight against organized crime in the region.
Direct Links to Foreign Gangsters Uncovered
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav emphasized that preliminary investigations have exposed direct connections between the arrested individuals and gangsters based overseas. These operatives were acting as local handlers, facilitating the trafficking of drugs and the supply of illegal weapons across Punjab. This revelation underscores the sophisticated and transnational nature of the criminal network that authorities are confronting.
Identities of the Arrested Accused Revealed
The police have identified the four arrested operatives as follows:
- Manjinder Singh alias Sonu, a resident of Pathralian village in Hoshiarpur.
- Shivam Bhandari, hailing from Dhina in Jalandhar.
- Sahil Masih alias Monu, from Pakhoke Tahli village in Gurdaspur.
- Ramel Roger, based in Garhshankar, Hoshiarpur.
Strategic Operation Leads to Major Recovery
Hoshiarpur Senior Superintendent of Police Sandeep Kumar Malik detailed that the successful operation was initiated based on reliable intelligence. Police teams established a special checkpoint within the jurisdiction of Garhshankar. During surveillance, a suspicious vehicle was intercepted, leading to the arrest of all four accused and the subsequent recovery of the heroin and weapons consignment. This coordinated effort highlights the effectiveness of proactive policing in disrupting criminal activities.
Habitual Offender with Violent History
SSP Malik further disclosed that one of the arrested individuals, Sahil Masih, is a habitual offender with a notorious criminal record. He was previously involved in a serious incident where he fired at a police party in the Batala district. This history underscores the dangerous nature of the operatives involved in this module and the critical importance of their apprehension to public safety.
The bust represents a significant blow to the infrastructure supporting drug trafficking and illegal arms trade in Punjab, with authorities continuing their investigations to uncover further links and prevent future criminal operations.
