Punjab Police Foils ISI Grenade Plot, Arrests Three

Punjab Police Uncover and Disrupt Major ISI-Linked Terror Plot

In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Punjab Police announced on Monday that they have successfully foiled a dangerous module backed by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The module was allegedly planning to carry out grenade attacks on police establishments not only in Punjab but also in other states across India. This timely intervention has averted a potential wave of violence targeting law enforcement infrastructure.

Arrests and Seizures in Coordinated Raids

Three individuals have been arrested in connection with this high-stakes case. During the operations, police recovered two hand grenades and a Glock pistol from the suspects. Preliminary investigations have revealed that this ISI-supported module was systematically targeting police establishments across multiple states, highlighting a coordinated threat that has now been neutralized.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav provided crucial details, noting that the grenades bore markings of the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF). This evidence strongly indicates cross-border linkages, pointing to the involvement of Pakistani entities in the plot, as reported by PTI.

Identities of the Accused and Operational Details

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Ammishah village in Tarn Taran.
  • Bikramjit Singh, a resident of Nangal Pannuwan village in Amritsar.
  • Amandeep Singh, a resident of Indra Colony in Amritsar.

Sharing operational insights, Assistant Inspector General Sukhminder Singh Mann of the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar explained that the arrests were made during an intelligence-led operation. Police teams from SSOC apprehended Sarabjit Singh and Amandeep Singh, recovering the hand grenades and pistol from their possession.

Cross-State Collaboration and Investigation Findings

Further investigation uncovered that Bikramjit Singh was the key operative and primary contact for Pakistan Intelligence Operatives (PIOs) within the group. He was operating from Deesa in Gujarat. This critical information was immediately shared with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Gujarat. With their active cooperation, SSOC successfully arrested Bikramjit Singh, as confirmed by Mann.

The probe also revealed that all the accused were in communication with PIOs through various social media platforms. Acting on directions from their ISI handlers, the group was planning to execute grenade attacks on multiple police establishments in Punjab and other states.

Ongoing Efforts and Legal Actions

Police authorities have stated that efforts are ongoing to identify, track, and apprehend other members of this module. An FIR has been registered under the Explosive Substances (Amendment) Act, the Arms Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar. This legal action underscores the seriousness of the charges and the commitment to bringing all involved to justice.

This operation highlights the vigilance and efficiency of the Punjab Police in combating cross-border terrorism threats, ensuring public safety and security in the region.
