Punjab Police and Uttarakhand Police Launch Joint Raids in Rudrapur to Locate Accused Councillor
A coordinated operation unfolded in Rudrapur on Monday as a Punjab Police team, working in close collaboration with the Uttarakhand Police, executed joint raids to trace a municipal councillor implicated in a fatal shooting incident. The accused, identified as Johny Bhatia, councillor of Ward No. 14 in Rudrapur, is suspected of opening fire during a wedding ceremony in Punjab's Balachaur, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old man.

The incident occurred on Sunday at the Chaudhary Palace Marriage Hall in Balachaur, where alleged celebratory firing took a deadly turn. According to police sources in Punjab, a bullet struck Tarjeet Singh in the chest during the festivities. He was immediately rushed to a hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Tarjeet Singh was recently deported from the United States and hailed from the family of an Air Force veteran, adding a poignant layer to the case.
Police Investigation and Joint Operation Efforts
Following the incident, a case was registered under relevant legal sections, with the investigation swiftly pointing towards the involvement of the Rudrapur councillor. Rudrapur SHO Manoj Ratudi stated that the Punjab Police acted on a specific lead indicating Bhatia was in the Rudrapur area. "We coordinated with them and conducted joint raids at multiple locations to locate the accused," Ratudi explained. Despite these intensive efforts, the accused remains untraceable as of the latest updates.
