Major Terror Plot Thwarted in Punjab Joint Operation
In a significant breakthrough, a joint team from the Punjab Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and the SAS Nagar police successfully foiled a major terror plot this Wednesday. The operation led to the arrest of four operatives associated with the foreign-based gangster Goldy Dhillon of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
The dramatic arrests were made following a fierce exchange of gunfire near the Steel Strips Towers on the Derabassi–Ambala Highway. A case has been officially registered at the Derabassi police station under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.
Dramatic Shootout and Arrests
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmandeep Singh Hans, who briefed the media at the scene, provided details of the confrontation. The police team, acting on specific intelligence, surrounded a house near the highway. "When the teams moved in, the suspects opened fire. Six rounds were fired at the police party," stated SSP Hans.
The police retaliation was swift and precise. Twelve rounds were fired back at the suspects, resulting in injuries to two of the accused. The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Harvinder Singh (alias Bhola, alias Honey)
- Lakhwinder Singh
- Mohammad Samir
- Rohit Sharma
Weapons Seized and Terror Plans Uncovered
From the possession of the arrested operatives, the police recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition. The seized items include:
- Seven .32-caliber pistols
- 70 live cartridges
- One scooter and one bike used by the accused
SSP Hans revealed that the preliminary investigation points to a chilling plan. "The arrested operatives were working under the directions of their foreign handler and were planning targeted attacks across the Tricity and Patiala region," he said. This intelligence suggests that a major tragedy was averted due to the timely intervention of the security forces.
Investigation Origins and Criminal Background
The breakthrough in this case came from crucial information obtained during the interrogation of suspects arrested in a recent encounter in Ropar district. Acting swiftly on this tip-off about the gang's presence, a team led by DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar launched the operation.
In a testament to the bravery of the police force, the bullets fired by the suspects struck the bulletproof jackets of Head Constable Gagandeep Singh and Constable Gulab Singh, preventing serious injuries.
Further investigation has uncovered that all four accused have a previous criminal record involving theft and snatching. It is believed they built links with gangsters while serving time in jail. The police have indicated that further arrests and recoveries are likely as the investigation progresses to trace the network's deeper connections.
