Punjab Police Intensifies Security with State-Wide Tenant Verification Campaign
In a significant move to bolster public safety and curb criminal activities, the Punjab Police has launched an extensive state-level campaign aimed at verifying the identities and backgrounds of tenants residing in suburban areas and colonies on the outskirts of cities and towns across Punjab. This initiative comes on the heels of the successful 72-hour-long Operation Prahaar, which targeted gangsters and their associates.
Operation Prahaar: A Prelude to Enhanced Security Measures
The recent Operation Prahaar was a massive crackdown involving over 2,000 police teams, comprising approximately 12,000 personnel. These teams were deployed across Punjab to conduct raids at identified and mapped locations linked to associates of 60 foreign-based gangsters. The operation marked a decisive step in the state's efforts to dismantle criminal networks and ensure law and order.
Key Findings from the Verification Drive
Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla provided detailed insights into the campaign's progress. He stated that police teams checked as many as 1,043 locations across the state. During this operation, a total of 8,328 tenants were scrutinized, with the identities of 7,815 individuals successfully verified. The drive led to the rounding up of 132 suspicious persons, and incriminating material was seized from their possession, which is currently under further examination.
Continued Efforts: Gangstran Te Vaar Campaign
Shukla emphasized that the Gangstran Te Vaar campaign, which translates to War Against Gangsters, will persist until Punjab is declared free from gangster activities. This ongoing effort underscores the police department's commitment to maintaining a secure environment for residents and preventing the infiltration of criminal elements into residential areas.
