A horrific case of murder followed by suicide has shaken the Lalganj area of Rae Bareli, where a 35-year-old woman was brutally killed inside her home by her alleged lover after she refused to run away with him. The accused later died by consuming poison, police confirmed on Sunday.
Argument Over Elopement Turns Deadly
The victim, identified as Seema Kumari (35), worked as a panchayat mitra and was the sole breadwinner for her family, which includes her three young children. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at her house in Bhichkaura village.
According to police, the accused, Ram Sumer (45), a mechanic from the same village, entered Seema's home while she was alone. He allegedly pressured her to leave her family and elope with him. When Seema firmly refused his demands, a heated argument broke out between the two.
In a fit of rage, Ram Sumer is alleged to have attacked Seema with a sharp-edged chopper, slitting her throat. The attack proved fatal, and she died on the spot. Startled villagers later reported seeing the accused fleeing the house in a state of panic.
Discovery of the Crime and the Accused's Fate
The crime came to light when family members and other villagers entered the house and discovered Seema's body lying in a pool of blood. The murder weapon was recovered from the scene by the investigating team.
A few hours after the murder, police received information that Ram Sumer was found lying unconscious in a mustard field near a primary school. He was rushed to a community health centre, where doctors declared him dead. Medical officials confirmed that he had consumed poison.
Diary Entries Reveal Motive, Wife Alleges Violent Behavior
Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar Sinha stated that during the investigation, police recovered several pages from a diary allegedly belonging to Ram Sumer. Senior officers revealed that the diary entries detail his relationship with the victim and indicate that he was deeply upset over her refusal to leave her family.
In a related development, Ram Sumer's wife, Santosh Kumari, alleged that her husband had a violent temperament and would often stay away from home for days at a time.
The victim, Seema Kumari, is survived by her three children: Virat (12), Kavya (7), and Veeru (6). The police investigation into the case is ongoing.
