Police have arrested a member of the Rahul Dubey gang in connection with the June 2 firing incident at the Giddi-C checkpost in Hazaribag district. The arrest was made based on a tip-off received by the special investigation team (SIT) formed by Hazaribag Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar.
Arrest and Confession
The accused, identified as Mohammad Waris, a resident of Chutel village under the Barkagaon police station area, was detained from his residence for interrogation. During questioning, he confessed to his involvement in the firing incident along with two other accomplices.
Recovery of Weapons
Based on Waris's statement, police recovered a 7.62 mm country-made pistol and two live cartridges that were used in the incident. The recovery has strengthened the case against the accused.
Details of the Incident
On June 2, two criminals allegedly arrived at the Giddi-C checkpost on a motorcycle and opened fire with the intention to create panic. The incident had raised security concerns in the area.
Ongoing Investigation
Raids are currently under way to arrest the other two accused involved in the firing. Officer in-charge of the Giddi police station, Iqbal Hussain, stated that Waris has multiple cases registered against him, including attempt to murder, extortion, Arms Act violations, and other serious offences.
The SIT continues to investigate the matter to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.
