Railway Debunks Social Media Claim About Goods Train
Western Railway has officially denied a viral social media video suggesting that a goods train stopped near Indore to allow crew members to purchase food. In a statement, the railway clarified that the train was already halted due to pre-planned engineering work at the RAU yard, not for any food-related activity.
Official Clarification from Western Railway
The Western Railway zone, through its Public Relations Officer Mukesh Kumar, initially acknowledged the video's circulation on social media but cautioned against its authenticity. Kumar stated, "We also came to know about this through social media. Since it is on social media, we cannot confirm its authenticity." However, the railway later issued a detailed clarification via its official Twitter handle.
The clarification identified the train as the Concor Green Field Private Terminus goods train, hauled by Loco Nos. 27237 and 27600. It was stopped at the RAU Home Signal due to scheduled engineering work in the RAU yard. The railway explicitly labeled the claim that the train stopped to purchase food as false and misleading.
Fact-Check and Misleading Claims
The viral video, which garnered significant attention, implied that the train halted specifically for crew members to buy food from nearby vendors. However, the railway's fact-check revealed that the stop was routine and related to infrastructure maintenance. The post from Press Trust of India (PTI) had originally shared the video, prompting widespread discussion. Western Railway responded directly to the PTI tweet with its clarification, emphasizing that the train was not stopped for food purchase.
This incident highlights the rapid spread of misinformation on social media and the importance of official verification. The railway urged the public to rely on authenticated sources for accurate information. The clarification was posted on July 8, 2026, and has since been widely shared to counter the misleading narrative.
