Rajasthan Government Unveils Major Judicial Infrastructure Push in 2026-27 Budget

In a significant move to strengthen the state's judicial system, the Rajasthan government has announced comprehensive plans for the expansion and modernization of courts across the region as part of its Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27. A substantial allocation of Rs 200 crore has been specifically earmarked for this critical infrastructure development initiative, which aims to significantly enhance access to justice for citizens throughout the state.

New Courts and Judicial Facilities Proposed

The budget outlines a detailed proposal for establishing multiple new courts to address judicial backlogs and improve legal services. Specifically, it includes plans for five new senior civil judge and additional chief judicial magistrate courts in key locations: Dhorimanna in Barmer district, Neemrana–Kotputli Behror, Itawa in Kota district, Taranagar in Churu district, and Khatu Shyamji in Sikar district.

Furthermore, the government has proposed three new additional district and sessions courts in Roopwas within Bharatpur district, Jahazpur in Bhilwara district, and Kishanganj in Baran district. To bolster specialized adjudication capabilities, two special NDPS courts are planned for Bikaner and Nimbahera in Chittorgarh district, dedicated to handling narcotics-related cases more efficiently.

Specialized Courts and Enhanced Access Measures

In an effort to expedite the resolution of financial disputes, special judicial magistrate courts under the Negotiable Instruments Act are slated for establishment in Kuchaman City–Deedwana and Pali district, focusing on speeding up the disposal of cheque bounce matters. Additionally, a camp court of an additional district and sessions judge has been proposed for Shahbad in Baran district to serve remote areas.

The budget also provides for the opening of civil judge and judicial magistrate courts in Shergarh within Jodhpur district and Sangod in Kota district. To modernize judicial proceedings and improve accessibility, video conferencing facilities will be introduced in state and district consumer commissions, enabling remote participation in hearings and reducing the need for physical presence.

Infrastructure Development and Prosecution Support

Beyond court expansions, the budget includes provisions for constructing new buildings for 15 prosecution offices that are currently operating from rented premises. This move is expected to provide better working conditions for legal professionals and streamline prosecution processes. The overall Rs 200 crore allocation underscores the government's commitment to creating a more robust, efficient, and accessible judicial framework across Rajasthan, addressing both infrastructure gaps and technological needs in the legal system.
