Rajasthan HC Orders Police to Trace Missing Minor Girl in 2 Weeks

The Rajasthan High Court on Tuesday directed the police to trace a minor girl, aged around 17 years, who has been missing for the last two months, and produce her before the court within two weeks. The court warned that if she is not traced within the stipulated time, the Superintendent of Police of Sawai Madhopur will have to file an affidavit explaining the delay.

A division bench comprising Justice Mahendra Goyal and Justice Bhuvan Goyal passed the order while hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by the father of the girl from a village in the Chauth Ka Barwara area of Sawai Madhopur district.

Counsel for the petitioner, Lakshmikant Sharma Malpura, stated that the petitioner’s daughter is currently aged about 17 years and 10 months. “She has been missing since February 8, 2026. It was alleged that a youth from the same village abducted her. A criminal case was registered at Chauth Ka Barwara Police Station, but despite nearly two months passing, she has not been traced,” Sharma informed the court.

During the hearing, the Station House Officer present in court informed the bench about the efforts made by the police to locate the missing girl. However, the High Court expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of results and directed the officer to ensure that she is produced before the court within two weeks.

The court emphasized the seriousness of the matter and warned that failure to comply would result in the Superintendent of Police being required to submit an affidavit explaining the reasons for the delay. This case highlights the ongoing challenges in tracing missing persons, especially minors, and the judiciary's role in ensuring police accountability.
