Anti-Corruption Bureau Nabs Two Police Personnel in Jaipur Bribery Sting Operation
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Rajasthan made a significant arrest on Thursday, apprehending two police constables from Dungarpur police station in Jaipur. The officials were caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 1.50 lakh from a civilian. The accused have been identified as Head Constable Ashok Kumar Patidar and Constable Prakash Chandra Patel.
Chronology of the Alleged Extortion Incident
According to detailed ACB reports, the incident traces back to January 18, when the complainant was standing near a roadside. A police vehicle approached him, and the two constables began interrogating him about a specific address. When the man expressed ignorance, the officers reportedly seized his mobile phone for inspection.
Upon examining the device, they allegedly accused him of involvement in fraudulent online gaming transactions. The complainant was then forced into the police vehicle under the pretext of being taken to Dovada police station.
Threats and Monetary Demands by the Accused
During the journey, the policemen are said to have issued severe threats, warning that if a formal case were registered, his life would be devastated and he might not secure bail for several months. They purportedly offered a way out: pay a substantial sum to avoid the case and retrieve his mobile phone.
The initial demand was set at Rs 1 lakh, after which the victim was dropped at Vagdari. Following this traumatic encounter, the complainant immediately informed his elder brother about the extortion attempt.
ACB's Strategic Trap and Successful Arrest
On January 20, the complainant's brother established contact with Constable Prakash Chandra Patel, who insisted on an in-person meeting. After thorough verification of the bribe demand, the ACB meticulously planned a trap operation.
The climax occurred on January 28, when the accused agreed to accept the escalated amount of Rs 1.50 lakh. The ACB team executed a well-coordinated operation, arresting both policemen at the very moment they took the bribe money.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The Anti-Corruption Bureau has confirmed that further investigation is actively underway to uncover any additional details or potential accomplices in this case. This arrest highlights the ACB's continued vigilance against corruption within law enforcement agencies in Rajasthan.
Such incidents underscore the challenges in maintaining police integrity and the importance of robust anti-corruption mechanisms to protect citizens from abuse of power.
