Major Narcotics Bust in Bhilwara: Police Seize Over 21kg of Opium

In a significant crackdown on illegal narcotics trafficking, the Rayla police station in Bhilwara district, in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), executed a coordinated operation this Friday. The joint effort resulted in the confiscation of a substantial 21 kilograms and 739 grams of opium from a pickup vehicle and led to the apprehension of three individuals suspected of smuggling.

Strategic Highway Blockade Leads to Seizure

Bhilwara Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh emphasized that this action was a critical component of a specialized campaign targeting narcotics smuggling within the district. Under the direct supervision of Shahpura Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Arya and the operational leadership of Rayla Station House Officer Mulchand Varma, a combined team from ANTF and Rayla police established a strategic blockade on the Bhilwara–Jaipur National Highway.

The team meticulously inspected vehicles passing through the checkpoint. During this intensive screening process, a pickup truck approaching from the Bhilwara direction was halted for a thorough search. Upon examination, authorities discovered the opium, meticulously packed into 12 separate plastic bags concealed inside the vehicle.

Arrests and Legal Proceedings Initiated

The police immediately seized the illicit contraband and took three men into custody. The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Manphul (26), a resident of Bikaner district.
  • Subhash Chandra Juriya (35), from Ganganagar district.
  • Kailash (20), also from Ganganagar district.

A formal case has been registered against the accused under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation to uncover further details about the smuggling network and potential accomplices.

Heightened Vigilance During Opium Harvest Season

Police officials highlighted that the timing of this operation is particularly crucial, as the opium harvesting season is currently active in several districts of Rajasthan, including Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, and Pratapgarh. This period traditionally sees an increase in smuggling attempts as traffickers seek to capitalize on the fresh harvest.

In response to this heightened risk, SP Dharmendra Singh has issued explicit directives to all police stations across Bhilwara district. He has mandated strict and vigilant action to prevent and curb the illegal transportation of opium and other narcotics, reinforcing the department's commitment to dismantling such operations and maintaining public safety.
