Rajasthan Post Offices Face Bomb Threats, Prompt Evacuations and Security Sweeps
In a concerning development, several passport and post offices across Rajasthan, including key cities like Jaipur, received bomb threats via email on Thursday. This incident triggered immediate evacuations and extensive searches by security teams, though no suspicious objects were ultimately discovered.
Details of the Threat and Response
The threatening email, sent under the name Saurabh Biswas, claimed that 10 poisonous bombs had been planted on the premises. It referenced an alleged insult to Dr Abdul Mohammad of Bengaluru Medical College, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation. In Jaisalmer, authorities swiftly responded as the Kotwali police, along with a dog squad and bomb disposal team, arrived at the head post office, which also houses the district post office. All employees and visitors were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
After thorough searches yielded no explosives, the post office was reopened for both staff and the public. Similar scenarios unfolded in other districts, including Barmer, Churu, Sriganganagar, and Hanumangarh, where the same email threat led to evacuations and security checks. In Jaisalmer and Barmer, officials restricted movement in surrounding areas and deployed additional security forces to manage crowds and secure the locations effectively.

The Kotwali station officer noted that threatening emails have been a recurring issue, with a pattern established over time. Police and administration officials have appealed to the public to remain calm, avoid spreading rumors, and report any suspicious activity immediately.
