Rajkot Land Dispute Escalates into Violent Assault on Farmer

In a shocking incident highlighting the tensions over land ownership in rural Gujarat, the Lodhika police in Rajkot district have registered a criminal case against a husband and wife for allegedly attacking a farmer with an iron pipe. The violent altercation occurred during a dispute over land measurement in Ambliyala village, located within the Lodhika taluka.

Complaint Details the Brutal Assault

The complaint was filed by Harshdeep Jadeja, a 49-year-old farmer, who reported that the incident took place when he had arranged for an official measurement of his land. This measurement was intended to clarify boundary demarcations in the Hanumanadhar area, a step often necessary to resolve property disputes.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Jadeja had purchased a plot of land measuring 4 acres and 2 gunthas. He arrived at the site on Saturday morning for the scheduled measurement process. During this procedure, a neighboring landowner identified as Ramesh Solanki arrived at the location on a motorcycle, accompanied by his wife Sonal.

Alleged Attack and Injuries Sustained

The situation quickly turned violent. Ramesh Solanki is accused of threatening Jadeja before striking him on the head with an iron pipe. Meanwhile, Sonal Solanki allegedly restrained Jadeja, preventing him from defending himself or escaping the assault.

As a result of the attack, Harshdeep Jadeja sustained serious head injuries and began bleeding profusely. His son and brother, who were nearby, rushed to the spot and managed to rescue him from further harm. He was immediately taken to the Lodhika government hospital for urgent medical attention.

At the hospital, medical staff applied stitches to his head wound to control the bleeding and address the laceration. In addition to the head injury, Jadeja also suffered injuries to both of his hands during the altercation. Further medical examinations, including X-rays, were underway to assess the full extent of his injuries and ensure proper treatment.

Legal Action Initiated by Police

The Lodhika police have taken swift action by registering a case against the accused couple. The charges have been filed under Sections 109(1), 118(1), 54, and other relevant provisions of the law. These sections typically pertain to abetment, assault, and causing hurt, reflecting the serious nature of the alleged crime.

This incident underscores the volatile nature of land disputes in agricultural communities, where conflicts over boundaries and ownership can sometimes escalate into physical violence. The police investigation is ongoing to gather further evidence and statements from all parties involved.
