Two Girls Allegedly Raped in Gir Somnath District After Blackmail Threats
In a disturbing incident from Gujarat, two girls, who are close relatives, were allegedly raped by two individuals in the Talala police station jurisdiction of Gir Somnath district. The accused, identified as a 26-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy, reportedly threatened the victims with the circulation of indecent photographs on social media to coerce them.
Complaint and Legal Action
A formal complaint was registered on Sunday by the victims' mother under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 64(1) and 351(2), along with Sections 4, 6, and 18 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. According to police statements, the accused also threatened to kill the girls, adding to the severity of the case.
Arrests and Custody Details
The Talala police have taken swift action by arresting the 26-year-old accused, Paresh alias Kadiyo Parmar, a resident of Jargali village in Gir Gadhda taluka. He was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody in Junagadh. Meanwhile, his 17-year-old co-accused was presented before a juvenile court and subsequently sent to the Observation Home in Rajkot.
In-charge police inspector A B Gohil informed that the two accused are friends, with Parmar working as a labourer. Gohil emphasized that digital and scientific evidence has been collected as part of the ongoing investigation to build a strong case.
Incident Details and Blackmail Scheme
According to police sources, the alleged incidents occurred in December. Parmar is accused of taking one of the girls to his sister's house and raping her, while the 17-year-old boy allegedly took the other girl to his residence and had sexual relations with her. The girls later refused further demands from the accused, leading to increased threats.
Police sources revealed that the accused had previously taken indecent photographs of the girls and used them to blackmail the victims, threatening to circulate the images online. This blackmail tactic was a key element in coercing the girls into compliance.
Disclosure and Police Report
After enduring the threats and abuse, the girls eventually disclosed the matter to their family members. Following this, a formal report was lodged with the police, initiating the investigation and subsequent arrests. The case highlights the grave risks associated with digital blackmail and the importance of timely intervention under laws like the POCSO Act.
