Rajkot Woman Files FIR Against Husband for Decade-Long Abuse and Child Death

A 41-year-old woman in Rajkot has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Mahila police station, accusing her husband of severe physical abuse and mental harassment spanning over a decade. The FIR outlines a harrowing pattern of domestic violence, including an assault during her pregnancy that resulted in the premature birth and subsequent death of their child.

Details of the Alleged Abuse

According to the FIR, the couple married in December 2009. The complainant stated that the abuse began shortly after their marriage when her husband developed a liquor habit and started initiating conflicts over trivial matters, such as cooking and household chores. The situation escalated dramatically during her second month of pregnancy.

The FIR describes a particularly gruesome incident: After a dispute where her mother-in-law allegedly taunted her, her husband is accused of attacking her in the kitchen with a hot cooking pan. This assault caused severe burns and head injuries. The trauma from this event led to premature labor in her seventh month of pregnancy, and the child died just a few days after birth.

Escalation and Legal Actions

The woman further alleged that around 2016, she discovered her husband was involved in multiple extramarital affairs. When she confronted him, he reportedly denied the accusations and intensified the physical abuse. In response, she filed cases for maintenance and domestic violence in 2018.

Although the couple reached a settlement in August 2023, the abusive behavior allegedly continued. The husband is accused of pursuing affairs, repeatedly questioning her character, and even sending a friend to stalk her while she attended yoga sessions.

Financial Harassment and Additional Allegations

The FIR also highlights instances of financial harassment. The woman claimed that her husband stopped paying the EMIs on their home loan, resulting in eviction notices and the eventual sealing of their house. She alleged that he pressured her to pick fights with the finance company's recovery agents and file false complaints against them in an attempt to get the loan waived.

Exhausted by years of assault, character assassination, abusive video calls, and slandering among relatives, the woman stated she repeatedly sought assistance through the police helpline before finally lodging the FIR. The case has been registered under Sections 85 and 351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
