Ram Temple Attack Plot Accused Fatally Attacked in Faridabad Jail
In a shocking incident at Neemka Jail in Faridabad, Haryana, a man accused of plotting an attack on the Ram Temple in Ayodhya was killed by a fellow inmate late Sunday night. The victim, identified as Abdul Rahman, a 19-year-old native of Ayodhya's Milkipur, was attacked with a sharp weapon inside the prison premises.
Details of the Jail Attack
According to jail officials and police authorities, the assailant was Arun Chaudhary, who had been recently transferred to Neemka Jail from Jammu and Kashmir. The attack occurred late on Sunday night, but information reached jail authorities only on Monday morning. Upon receiving the alert, jail officials immediately rushed to the scene and initiated an investigation.
The police subsequently arrived at the jail, took custody of Rahman's body, and sent it to the civil hospital for a post-mortem examination. The circumstances surrounding the attack and the motive behind it are currently under investigation by both jail authorities and law enforcement agencies.
Background of the Accused
Abdul Rahman was arrested on March 2, 2025, near Pali village by a joint team comprising the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Faridabad Special Task Force (STF), and the Intelligence Bureau. During his arrest, authorities recovered two hand grenades from his possession.
Police investigations revealed that Rahman had allegedly hatched a conspiracy to carry out an attack in Ayodhya and was specifically accused of planning to detonate grenades at the Ram Temple. During the course of the investigation, authorities discovered that Rahman was in contact with Abu Sufiyan, a terrorist associated with Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).
Family's Claims of Innocence
Following Rahman's arrest last year, his family members maintained that he was being falsely implicated in the case. Rahman's mother spoke to media representatives, asserting her son's innocence and claiming that he operated a battery-powered rickshaw for a living.
"All of this is a lie," she told reporters. "The police did not tell us anything... they just took him and my husband away. All I would like to say is, please, bring my child back to me. He has not done anything wrong."
She further revealed that Rahman had health issues, including a hole in his heart that required an operation funded through donations. The family, consisting of one son and three daughters, maintained that they had no involvement in any illegal activities and that Rahman was being wrongfully targeted.
Ongoing Investigations
The killing inside the high-security prison has raised serious questions about jail security and inmate safety protocols. Authorities are investigating how such an attack could occur within the prison walls and whether there were any lapses in security measures.
Both the jail attack and the original terrorism case against Rahman remain under active investigation. The police are examining all aspects of Rahman's alleged connections with terrorist organizations and the circumstances that led to his violent death while in judicial custody.
