Ranchi Police Crack Down on Illegal Liquor Trade with Major Seizure
In a significant enforcement action, Ranchi district police have seized more than 400 bottles of liquor intended for illegal sale. The operation targeted two hotels located near Rampur Chowk, within the jurisdiction of the Silli police station, during a nighttime raid on Wednesday.
Details of the Police Operation and Seizure
Acting on directives from Superintendent of Police (Rural) Praveen Pushkar, a specialized police team conducted simultaneous raids on the two eateries. The officers recovered a substantial cache of liquor bottles, representing multiple well-known brands. According to police reports, approximately 30 of these bottles were illicitly transported from the neighboring state of West Bengal, in clear violation of excise regulations.
The hotel proprietors were operating without the necessary licenses, facilitating the unauthorized sale of alcohol. This illegal activity prompted the swift police intervention to curb the distribution of contraband liquor in the area.
Legal Actions and Current Status of the Accused
Following the raid, authorities have registered a formal case under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Excise Act. The charges have been filed against the hotel owners, identified as Balram Sahu and Prakash Sahu, who are currently evading arrest and remain absconding.
The police have intensified their search efforts to apprehend the accused, emphasizing their commitment to enforcing excise laws and preventing illegal liquor trade. This case highlights ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in Ranchi district, particularly in combating unauthorized alcohol sales that pose risks to public health and safety.
