Ranchi Police Launches First Aid and CPR Training for Traffic Personnel
The traffic wing of Ranchi Police has initiated a comprehensive training program to equip its personnel with essential first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills, aiming to save the lives of accident victims. SP (Traffic) Rakesh Singh announced this proactive measure, emphasizing the critical role of police as first responders in emergency situations.
Special Training Session Held for 50 Personnel
On Thursday, a dedicated training session was organized for 50 traffic department personnel, focusing on first aid, CPR, and basic life-saving techniques. During the exercise, personnel actively practiced CPR through live demonstrations, gaining hands-on experience. The session also covered various methods, such as techniques to stop bleeding in victims, to ensure a well-rounded approach to emergency care.
SP Rakesh Singh stated, "Police are typically the first to arrive at accident scenes, making it imperative that they are skilled in first aid. This Thursday's program marks the beginning of our efforts, with more sessions planned to follow."
Expert Insights on Life-Saving Measures
Dr. Ajit Kumar, involved in the training, highlighted the importance of timely intervention. "If an accident victim's bleeding point is properly bandaged and they are transported to a hospital swiftly, their chances of survival significantly increase. In cases where the heart stops due to shock from an accident, performing CPR is crucial to sustain life until medical help arrives," he explained.
Addressing Road Accident Statistics in Ranchi
Last year, Ranchi district witnessed alarming road accident figures, with 557 fatalities, 458 grievous injuries, and 81 minor injuries. The higher number of deaths compared to injuries has raised concerns among road safety officials, who attribute this trend largely to delays in receiving medical treatment. This training initiative is a direct response to these statistics, aiming to improve on-site emergency care and reduce fatalities.
The program underscores Ranchi Police's commitment to enhancing public safety and emergency response capabilities. By empowering traffic personnel with life-saving skills, the department hopes to make a tangible impact on road accident outcomes in the region.
