Ranchi School Bus Accident: Driver Faints, Hits Bikes

School Bus Goes Out of Control After Driver Loses Consciousness

A potentially tragic incident was averted on Thursday afternoon in Ranchi when a school bus from St Michael School went out of control after its driver suddenly fainted at the steering wheel.

The alarming event unfolded on Ratu Road around midday as the bus was completing its student drop-off route. According to police reports, the driver experienced a medical emergency that led to the bus veering off course.

Sequence of Events on Ratu Road

Police authorities confirmed that the out-of-control bus ran over at least five parked bikes before finally colliding with a roadside pole. The impact brought the vehicle to a stop, preventing what could have been a more serious accident.

Officer-in-charge Asok Kumar from Sukhdevnagar police station provided crucial details about the incident. "The bus was dropping students of St Michael School, Piska More, when the incident occurred," Kumar stated, adding that fortunately, only one student remained on board at the time of the accident.

Miraculous Escape and Driver's Condition

In what authorities are calling a miraculous escape, no one was injured during the entire incident. The sole student present in the bus was safely handed over to waiting parents immediately after the accident.

The driver later explained to investigators that he had felt a sudden contraction in his hands while operating the vehicle after completing one of the student drop-offs. "As the driver became unconscious, the bus veered to the roadside and hit the vehicles," Officer Kumar elaborated.

Quick-thinking locals rushed to the scene and helped extract the unconscious driver from the vehicle. Their prompt action ensured the driver received immediate attention following his medical episode.

The incident has raised questions about driver health monitoring in school transportation systems, though authorities confirmed that all safety protocols were followed in handling the situation after the accident occurred.
