Raulgaon Blast Accused Moves Bombay High Court for Anticipatory Bail
Kedar Panchputre, an individual implicated in the devastating Raulgaon SBL factory explosion, has formally approached the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court, seeking anticipatory bail. This legal move follows the rejection of his initial plea by the additional sessions court on March 16, which cited the grave nature of the crime as grounds for denial.
Court Proceedings and Police Notice
The anticipatory bail application was presented before Justice Mahendra Chandwani during a recent hearing. In response, the High Court has issued a formal notice to the Kalmeshwar Police, mandating them to submit their detailed reply by March 30. This step sets the stage for further judicial scrutiny into the case.
Background of the Tragic Incident
The explosion, which occurred on March 1 within the factory premises, resulted in a catastrophic loss of life, claiming 25 workers and leaving numerous others with critical injuries. According to prosecution statements, the incident stemmed from severe violations of established safety norms by the company, highlighting systemic failures in operational protocols.
Defense and Prosecution Arguments
In his plea, Panchputre asserted that he was on leave at the time of the explosion and had no direct involvement in the operations leading to the blast. However, the sessions court noted that as an employee associated with the company, his potential responsibilities related to safety or supervision warrant a comprehensive investigation to ascertain any culpability.
Legal Representation and Next Steps
Advocate Amol Mardikar represented the accused during the proceedings, while additional public prosecutor SV Kolhe appeared on behalf of the State Government. The matter is anticipated to proceed to further hearings once the Kalmeshwar Police files their response, which will be crucial in determining the court's subsequent actions regarding the bail application.
