A tragic hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a 61-year-old retired deputy mamlatdar in Dhari town, Amreli district, on Wednesday morning. The victim, Mohan Korat, was struck from behind by an unidentified speeding vehicle, according to the police.

Details of the Incident

Korat, a resident of the Sardar Nagar-1 area of Dhari taluka, had gone for his routine morning walk around 6:30 am near Shivalay Complex on Chalala Road. As per the police complaint, a white car traveling from the Chalala side hit Korat from behind at high speed, causing him to be thrown onto the road. He sustained severe head and facial injuries.

The driver of the vehicle immediately fled the scene after the collision, leaving Korat lying on the road.

Response and Hospitalization

Korat's friend, Chatur Sorathiya, who was present nearby, promptly called for an ambulance. Korat was rushed to the government hospital in Dhari, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Upon receiving the news, Korat's daughter, Shweta Korat, reached the hospital. She later filed a complaint at the Dhari police station, leading to the registration of a case under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police Investigation

The police have stated that the complaint alleges rash and negligent driving by the unidentified driver, who fled the scene after causing the fatal accident. Authorities are making efforts to trace the vehicle and the driver using CCTV footage from nearby areas. The investigation is ongoing.
