Retired Police Officer Stresses Harmony as Core Duty at Mandya Flag Day Event
In a compelling address at the Police Flag Day organized by the district police at the District Armed Reserve (DAR) parade grounds in Mandya, retired sub-inspector Dasappa underscored that the foremost responsibility of the police department is to maintain peace and harmony in society while ensuring unity among all communities. He articulated this vision during the event, which brought together current and former officers to honor service and dedication.
Kuvempu's Anthem and Karnataka's Unity
Dasappa invoked the state anthem penned by the renowned poet laureate Kuvempu, which describes Karnataka as a 'garden of all communities.' He emphasized that safeguarding this harmony and social unity remains the primary duty of the police force, urging officers to uphold these values in their daily operations. This reference highlighted the cultural and social fabric that the police are tasked with protecting.
Mandya's Progress and Police Achievements
Highlighting the district's advancements, Dasappa noted that Mandya has witnessed notable development in political, economic, and social spheres, emerging as an important tourist destination. He praised the Karnataka police for setting an example in handling cybercrime, disaster management, and law enforcement, while commending Mandya district for maintaining a stable law and order situation. He urged police personnel to remain committed to their responsibilities and lauded the department for its round-the-clock service to the community.
Police Flag Day and Welfare Initiatives
SP VJ Shobharani explained that April 2 is observed annually as Police Flag Day and Police Welfare Day to mark the implementation of the Karnataka Police Act. The occasion is dedicated to honoring retired police personnel from all ranks who have devoted their careers to public service. She detailed that funds raised through the sale of police flags are used for the welfare of retired personnel, with 50% of the proceeds credited to the retired police officers' welfare fund and the remaining 50% allocated to the central retirement welfare fund.
According to Shobharani, 27 police officers and staff members from the district retired between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026, underscoring the importance of these welfare efforts. Additional SP Thimmaiah and Gangadhar Swamy were also present at the event, reinforcing the collective commitment to supporting retired personnel and fostering community trust.
