A robbery attempt turned violent in the early hours of Sunday when an accused allegedly opened fire at members of a family after being caught while trying to steal gold ornaments at Karadigudda village in Badami taluk. The incident occurred around midnight on Saturday.
Accused Identified
The accused has been identified as Prashant Navi, 30, a resident of Chadchan in Vijayapura district. According to police, Navi allegedly entered the house of Holeppa Mugali with the intention of committing theft. When Holeppa caught hold of him, the accused allegedly tried to escape and fired two rounds from a country-made pistol.
Injury and Response
One of the shots reportedly misfired, while the second bullet hit Holeppa’s wife Basavva on her leg, causing injuries. Hearing the gunshots, villagers rushed to the spot and managed to overpower the accused before handing him over to the police. Basavva was admitted to hospital and is said to be out of danger.
Legal Action
A case has been registered at Badami Police Station and the accused has been arrested. Badami Circle Inspector Kariyappa Banne and Bagalkot Superintendent of Police Siddharth Goyal visited the spot to assess the situation. The investigation is ongoing.
