A violent confrontation erupted in Rourkela on Monday night when a woman and her two sons allegedly assaulted police officials who had arrived at their residence to make an arrest. The incident, which left two policemen injured, occurred in the Gangadharpalli area and stemmed from a bike theft case registered in Bhubaneswar.
Police Operation Turns Violent in Gangadharpalli
The police team had visited the family's home with the purpose of arresting one of the sons. The arrest was connected to a case of motorcycle theft registered at the Pahala police station in Bhubaneswar. To locate and apprehend the accused, the Pahala police had formally requested assistance from their counterparts at the Raghunathpalli police station in Rourkela.
Alleged Assault and Injuries to Officers
Upon attempting to execute the arrest, the situation quickly escalated. The woman, along with her two sons—one of whom is a minor—are accused of physically attacking the police personnel. The altercation resulted in injuries to two police officials. The injured officers required medical attention and were subsequently admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
Aftermath and Legal Action
In response to the attack, police took swift action the following day, on Tuesday. Authorities arrested the woman and the adult son who was the primary theft accused. Both were later remanded and sent to the Rourkela Special Jail. The minor son involved in the alleged assault was not sent to jail but was instead placed in a correctional home for juveniles, as per legal protocol for underage offenders.
This incident highlights the risks law enforcement officers sometimes face while performing their duties, even during routine operations like serving an arrest warrant. The case is now under further investigation as the legal process against the accused adults continues.
