Royapuram Police Inspector Transferred After Assault Video

Chennai: Royapuram police inspector Chidambara Bharathi, who was caught on video assaulting a man and then arguing with TVK MLA K V Vijay Damu, has been shifted out of the station without any new posting. The transfer follows allegations that the inspector acted in a biased manner while intervening in a protest by a woman.

Incident Details

While a wedding reception was underway on Tuesday outside Ramzan Hall on West Madha Church Street in Royapuram, a woman accompanied by her relatives attempted to stop the marriage. She alleged that the groom, Syed Ibrahim of Choolaimedu, had been in a relationship with her and had cheated her. During the protest, inspector Bharathi slapped one of her supporters, and the video went viral on social media. He was also seen arguing with MLA Vijay Damu at the venue.

Previous Complaints

Police sources said complaints related to disputes between the woman and Syed Ibrahim were previously registered at the Sholinganallur and Arumbakkam police stations. Further inquiry is underway.
