In a significant drug bust, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has apprehended a man in possession of 14 kilograms of marijuana valued at approximately Rs 7 lakh during an inspection at Hatia railway station in Ranchi city. The accused has been identified as Sandip Kumar, an 18-year-old native of Kaimur district in Bihar. Acting on a specific tip-off, a joint team comprising the RPF's flying squad and crime branch conducted a thorough inspection of the railway platform on Saturday. During the operation, they found Kumar sitting at the station with a trolley and a backpack, which raised suspicions.
The RPF reported that the marijuana was discovered in seven separate packets concealed within his bags. This seizure highlights the ongoing efforts by authorities to combat drug trafficking through railway networks, which are often used as transit points for illegal substances.
Interrogation and Motive
During subsequent interrogation, Sandip Kumar confessed to the police that he was transporting the marijuana from Odisha. He further admitted that his plan was to sell the material in Bihar for personal financial gain, indicating a calculated attempt at drug distribution across state lines.
