RPF Apprehends Two Suspects in Early Morning Railway Theft Operation
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Mysuru has successfully apprehended two individuals in connection with a significant theft of railway materials. In a meticulously planned early morning operation conducted on Tuesday, authorities recovered stolen property estimated to be worth around Rs 99,000.
Early Morning Interception Leads to Breakthrough
Acting on specific intelligence and under the direct guidance of senior divisional security commissioner and assistant security commissioner in Mysuru, RPF personnel intercepted two suspicious individuals near Hassan railway station at approximately 5:20 AM. The suspects, identified as Shriramu and Vijay, were moving on a two-wheeler when they were stopped for questioning.
During the initial inspection, authorities discovered a hammer and a metal piece in their vehicle, raising immediate suspicions about their intentions. The RPF investigation revealed that the duo had come to the railway area with the clear intention of committing theft, but their plans were thwarted due to increased police movement in the vicinity.
Confession Reveals Previous Theft Operation
During intensive questioning, both suspects confessed to a previous theft that had occurred approximately 10-15 days earlier. They admitted to breaking open the lock of a railway storeroom and stealing valuable railway relays, which they subsequently sold to a scrap shop located in Hassan.
Following this crucial confession, the RPF team immediately launched a follow-up operation. They visited the identified scrap shop near the SBI branch in Gowri Koppalu, where they made significant recoveries.
Substantial Recovery of Stolen Railway Property
The recovery operation yielded substantial evidence:
- 22 broken railway relays containing copper coils
- 5.7 kilograms of copper wire extracted from additional relays
- The two-wheeler used by the suspects
- Various tools employed in the commission of the theft
All recovered materials were found in dismantled condition, indicating the suspects had been systematically processing the stolen railway property for resale. The total estimated value of the recovered railway property stands at approximately Rs 99,000, representing a significant recovery for the railway authorities.
Comprehensive Seizure and Ongoing Investigation
The RPF has seized all recovered materials along with the vehicle and tools used in the offense. This operation demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence-led policing in protecting critical railway infrastructure and property.
Railway officials have emphasized that such thefts not only represent financial losses but also potentially compromise railway safety and operations. The successful apprehension and recovery operation sends a strong message about the RPF's commitment to safeguarding railway assets across the region.
