Joint Railway Operation Leads to Arrest of Four in Buxar Theft Case

In a coordinated effort to combat crime on railways, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) conducted a successful joint operation in Buxar on Thursday and Friday, resulting in the arrest of four individuals accused of stealing passengers' belongings on trains. The operation, part of the broader Operation Yatri Suraksha initiative, aimed to enhance safety and security for rail travelers across the region.

Accused Caught Red-Handed During Cellphone Snatching

The breakthrough came when RPF personnel apprehended Suhail Ansari, a resident of Gajadharganj in Buxar town, as he attempted to flee after snatching a cellphone from a female passenger aboard the Amrit Bharat Express. This arrest was made on Thursday evening, with Ansari caught in the act through a train window, providing crucial leads for further investigation.

Interrogation Uncovers Theft Network and Associates

Following Ansari's capture, intensive interrogation by authorities revealed details about his accomplices and their illicit activities. Based on information from the accused and an informer, police swiftly arrested two associates:

  • Dharmendra Kumar, son of Rampravesh Singh from Koransarai

The arrests were made from the station premises, with the trio allegedly confessing to systematically targeting passengers on trains and selling stolen cellphones to a local shopkeeper.

Shopkeeper Arrested and Stolen Goods Recovered

Acting on the information provided by the arrested individuals, police conducted a raid on a shop owned by Mohd Nasir in Gajadharganj. During the operation, authorities recovered two previously stolen high-end cellphones, leading to Nasir's arrest for allegedly purchasing stolen goods. This development exposed the broader network facilitating the theft racket.

Criminal History and Modus Operandi Revealed

RPF inspector Kundan Kumar disclosed that the accused had initially become acquainted while serving time in Ara jail for similar crimes. After their release, they regrouped and resumed their criminal activities, specializing in stealing valuables from unsuspecting passengers. The inspector noted that the individuals occasionally used blades to cut open passengers' bags or purses, demonstrating a calculated approach to their thefts.

Legal Proceedings and Seized Evidence

A formal case has been registered at GRP Buxar against the three primary accused and the shopkeeper for their involvement in the organized theft operation. The joint operation was conducted under the supervision of RPF Buxar inspector-in-charge Kundan Kumar and GRP in-charge Vikas Kumar. Police seized substantial evidence from the accused, including:

  1. A purse
  2. Four cellphones
  3. A blade used in the thefts

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by railway authorities to protect passengers and dismantle criminal networks operating within the rail system. The successful arrests serve as a warning to potential offenders while reassuring travelers of enhanced security measures through initiatives like Operation Yatri Suraksha.
