Major Seizures by RPF on South Central Railway
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of South Central Railway has conducted two significant operations, leading to the seizure of unaccounted cash worth ₹1.22 crore and a large quantity of marijuana. The operations took place aboard the Devagiri Express and the Nagavali Express, highlighting the ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities on the railway network.
Cash Seizure Under Operation Satark
In the first operation, carried out under the banner of Operation Satark, personnel from the crime prevention and detection squad (CPDS) noticed suspicious behaviour and unusual body language of a passenger during routine checks on the Devagiri Express. Upon inspection, officials recovered two bags containing a total of ₹1.22 crore in unaccounted cash. Preliminary investigations suggest that the money was allegedly being transported from Mumbai's Zaveri Bazaar to Secunderabad. The passenger and the seized cash were handed over to the Government Railway Police for further investigation. The matter has also been referred to the income tax department and the Intelligence Bureau. Officials stated that verification is underway through the interoperable criminal justice system and digital analysis by the RPF cyber cell.
Narcotics Bust Under Operation Narcos
In a separate operation under Operation Narcos, the RPF cracked an inter-state narcotics network with links to Maharashtra, Odisha, and Telangana. The breakthrough came aboard the Nagavali Express when the CPDS team observed suspicious movements and nervous behaviour of a passenger during surveillance checks. The operation resulted in the seizure of 83 kg of marijuana, valued at approximately ₹41.5 lakh, and the arrest of four accused individuals. Officials described it as a fast-moving, multi-location crackdown, underscoring the coordinated efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating via the railway system.
Ongoing Investigations
The authorities are continuing their investigations into both cases, utilizing digital analysis and inter-agency coordination to trace the origins and intended destinations of the seized items. The RPF remains vigilant in its efforts to prevent crime and ensure the safety and security of passengers and railway property.
