RPF's East Central Railway Delivers Impressive 2025-26 Performance in Security and Assistance
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) under the East Central Railway (ECR) has demonstrated a robust and effective performance throughout the 2025-26 fiscal year, significantly enhancing crime control measures and providing extensive support to passengers across its five divisions. According to Amaresh Kumar, the principal chief security commissioner-cum-IG of RPF for ECR, the force executed focused operations aimed at improving passenger safety, preventing criminal activities, and offering humanitarian aid.
Key Operations and Their Impact
Under Operation Nanhe Farishtey, the RPF successfully rescued 2,269 minors, comprising 1,582 boys and 687 girls, highlighting their commitment to child protection. Through Operation Amanat, personnel recovered 3,794 pieces of lost or stolen luggage valued at over Rs 4.07 crore, ensuring these items were returned to their rightful owners.
In emergency scenarios, Operation Jeevan Rakshak facilitated prompt responses that saved 199 lives on railway tracks, including 122 men and 77 women. The crime-control initiative, Operation Yatri Suraksha, led to the registration and detection of 1,380 cases, which included 14 dacoities, 14 robberies, two drug-related incidents, 109 luggage thefts, 41 chain-snatching occurrences, and 872 pickpocketing cases.
Focus on Women's Safety and Additional Support
Emphasizing women's security, Operation Mahila Suraksha registered 34,881 cases for unauthorized travel in women's coaches, resulting in the arrest of 34,874 offenders and the imposition of fines totaling Rs 93.36 lakh. Additionally, Operation Sewa provided assistance to 553 elderly passengers during their journeys, showcasing the force's dedication to vulnerable groups.
Crackdown on Illegal Activities
The RPF's vigilance under Operation Satark addressed illegal activities by solving 1,526 liquor-related cases, making 1,763 arrests, and seizing valuables worth over Rs 3.23 crore. In cases of alarm chain pulling, 14,179 incidents were registered, leading to 14,035 arrests and fines of Rs 68.80 lakh.
Combating Human Trafficking and Wildlife Crimes
In the fight against human trafficking, Operation Aaht rescued 516 minors, including 472 boys and 44 girls, and arrested 147 traffickers. Meanwhile, Operation WILEP targeted illegal wildlife transportation, registering 42 cases and arresting 41 individuals involved in such activities.
Strengthening Overall Security
To further bolster security measures, Operation Rail Suraksha resulted in 408 cases, 372 arrests, and the recovery of stolen property valued at Rs 41.68 lakh during the year, as confirmed by Kumar. These efforts underscore the RPF's comprehensive approach to maintaining safety and order within the railway network.
