Armed Robbers Steal Rs 1 Crore from Retired Principal's Residence in Madhubani
In a brazen early morning heist, armed and masked criminals looted cash and jewellery valued at approximately Rs 1 crore from the residence of Dayakant Jha, the retired principal of Gajhara Sanskrit College. The incident occurred in Gajhara village under the jurisdiction of the Ladania police station in Madhubani district on Friday.
Detailed Account of the Robbery
According to reports, around two dozen perpetrators scaled the rear wall of the courtyard to gain entry into the house. Their first action was to disable surveillance by smashing the CCTV cameras installed on the premises. The intruders then proceeded to assault some family members and issued threats to ensure compliance.
The robbers spent over an hour meticulously ransacking the property. They made off with a substantial haul including cash, jewellery, and other valuables estimated to be worth about Rs 1 crore. Notably, the criminals also searched through college documents and specifically targeted Rs 25 lakh from the principal's pension fund. During the commission of the crime, they even mentioned the names of some local villagers, adding a layer of intimidation to the already traumatic event.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon receiving the report, senior police officials including Madhubani Superintendent of Police Yogendra Kumar and Jaynagar Deputy Superintendent of Police Raghav Dayal promptly arrived at the scene for a thorough inspection. A dog squad was deployed in an attempt to track the perpetrators, but initial efforts did not yield immediate success.
As part of the investigation, a local resident named Suryanath Jha was taken into custody for questioning. Superintendent Kumar announced that a dedicated team led by DSP Dayal has been formed to investigate the robbery comprehensively. Police are actively working to examine CCTV footage from nearby houses in the hope of gathering crucial evidence.
Suspected Cross-Border Gang Involvement
The SP revealed that some suspects have already been identified. He provided details about the escape, noting that a night patrol team from Ladania had pursued the criminals, but they managed to evade capture. This escape was facilitated by the proximity of the area to the Nepal border and the presence of dense fog, which hampered visibility and tracking efforts.
Superintendent Kumar further stated that preliminary investigations suggest the gang appears to be an active criminal group based in Nepal. This cross-border aspect adds complexity to the case and highlights ongoing security challenges in border regions.
The robbery has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns about safety and the effectiveness of border security measures. Authorities are intensifying their efforts to apprehend the culprits and recover the stolen assets.
