Major Burglary in Rourkela: Thieves Steal Rs 25 Lakh from Locked Residence
In a shocking incident, burglars targeted a locked house in the Kutra police jurisdiction of Sundargarh district, Rourkela, making off with gold ornaments and cash valued at approximately Rs 25 lakh. The theft occurred on Sunday evening, prompting a swift response from law enforcement authorities.
Details of the Burglary
The house belongs to local businessman Abakash Das, residing in Chunipada. On Sunday, Das and his family were away attending a marriage ceremony, while his younger brother Ramesh had traveled to Rajgangpur. Seizing the opportunity of the empty premises, the burglars allegedly entered the property by scaling the rear boundary wall between 5 pm and 8 pm.
Once inside, they broke the main lock on the door and proceeded to ransack the house. The thieves forced open almirahs in three separate rooms, stealing an estimated Rs 7 to 8 lakh in cash along with nearly 120 grams of gold jewelry.
Discovery and Police Response
The theft was discovered around 8 pm when Ramesh returned home and found the house in disarray. He immediately alerted the Kutra police, who registered a case and initiated an investigation. On Monday, a scientific team and a dog squad were deployed to the scene to collect evidence and gather clues about the perpetrators.
Lokesh Sahu, the Inspector-in-Charge of Kutra police station, stated, "We have registered a case and our investigation is underway to identify the burglars and apprehend them." The police are examining all possible leads to track down the culprits involved in this high-value robbery.
