In a significant blow to synthetic drug trafficking networks, Indian authorities have seized a massive consignment of methamphetamine valued at approximately Rs 262 crore from a residential property in south Delhi. The landmark operation resulted in two arrests and exposed sophisticated international drug cartel operations.
Operation Crystal Fortress: The Major Bust
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in coordination with Delhi Police's special cell conducted a meticulously planned raid on November 20, recovering an astonishing 329 kilograms of high-purity methamphetamine from a house located in the upscale Chattarpur area. The intelligence-driven mission, codenamed Operation Crystal Fortress, represents one of the largest methamphetamine seizures in Delhi's history.
According to officials familiar with the investigation, the breakthrough came after months of intensive surveillance and technical monitoring that revealed a well-organized criminal network utilizing multiple couriers, secure safe houses, and layered handlers. Delhi had emerged as a crucial distribution hub for both domestic and international drug markets.
The Arrests and Syndicate Operations
Two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the massive drug haul. The first suspect, identified as Shane Waris, a 25-year-old resident of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh, was detained from Noida's Sector 5 on November 20. Despite working as a sales manager in a legitimate company, Waris allegedly operated as part of the drug syndicate under direct instructions from his handlers.
Investigators revealed that Waris employed sophisticated communication methods to conduct his illegal activities, including:
- Using fake SIM cards to avoid detection
- Operating through encrypted messaging applications like WhatsApp and Zangi
- Maintaining discreet operational protocols
During interrogation, Waris cooperated with authorities and provided critical intelligence that led investigators to his associate, Esther Kinimi from Nagaland, who was allegedly managing one of the narcotic consignments transported through a logistics platform rider.
The Chattarpur Raid and International Connections
Acting swiftly on Waris's information, NCB personnel conducted a raid the same day on Kinimi's residence in Chattarpur Enclave Phase 2, where they discovered and confiscated the enormous drug consignment. Kinimi was arrested with assistance from Nagaland Police, marking a significant breakthrough in the case.
Preliminary investigations indicate the syndicate functions as part of a larger international cartel with connections to a foreign-based kingpin who is also wanted in connection with last year's seizure of 83 kilograms of cocaine in Delhi. Authorities are now collaborating with international enforcement agencies to trace this mastermind and secure his deportation to India to face legal proceedings.
Government Response and Future Investigations
Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the operation as a brilliant example of seamless multi-agency coordination, emphasizing that the Central government is shattering drug cartels at an unprecedented pace. He described the successful mission as aligning with Prime Minister Modi's vision for a drug-free India.
Further investigation is required to completely map the entire supply chain, financial transactions, logistics networks, and potential storage points used by the cartel. Officers confirmed that efforts are ongoing to dismantle the entire network and prevent its expansion into overseas markets.
