Rs 35 Lakh Telephone Cable Stolen in Nashik, 3 Held

A 500-metre-long jelly-filled underground telephone cable valued at Rs 35 lakh was stolen between May 30 and May 31 from the Nashik Road area, police officials confirmed. The theft occurred between 8 am on May 30 and 10 am on May 31, according to the police complaint.

As per the complaint lodged, unidentified individuals opened the chamber housing underground telephone wires in the Bytco area of Nashik Road, pulled out 500 metres of the cable, and fled with it. The Nashik Road police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for theft.

Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Sapkale stated that three suspects have been detained in connection with the theft, and their interrogation is currently underway. The underground telephone copper wire is highly valuable, and copper can fetch a good price in the grey market.

According to police, several gangs of burglars specifically target stealing copper wires, which are often unguarded. In the past, there have been numerous thefts at substations of the state electricity company due to the lucrative market for copper in the grey market. The investigation is ongoing.
