Police identified the victims as Rithik Mandal and Sahib Singh, both employees of the same automobile firm located in Singh Colony. As the train slowed down near Bilaspur railway station, three armed miscreants surrounded Mandal and Singh. At gunpoint, the criminals forced the terrified employees to hand over the money.

Santosh Kumar Meena, in-charge of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) outpost, provided crucial details about the incident. "The accused were carrying country-made pistols and appear to have had prior knowledge about the cash movement," Meena stated, emphasizing the planned nature of the crime.
