In a significant crackdown on illegal liquor transportation, the Vijay Nagar police in Indore confiscated a massive consignment of illicit alcohol valued at approximately Rs 7.5 lakh from a passenger bus. The operation, based on a specific tip-off, led to the arrest of the bus driver and conductor for violating the Excise Act.
Tip-Off Leads to Major Interception
Acting on crucial intelligence received on Sunday night, a dedicated police team from Vijay Nagar police station swiftly moved into action. Additional DCP Amrendra Singh confirmed that the information pertained to a large quantity of illegal liquor being transported via a bus. The authorities strategically intercepted the vehicle at Radisson Square in the city.
Details of the Seizure
Upon conducting a thorough search of the bus's luggage compartment, officers uncovered a staggering haul. They recovered a total of 90 boxes containing illicit liquor. The total volume of the seized alcohol amounted to 777.6 litres, with an estimated market value of Rs 7.5 lakh. The police took immediate possession of both the illicit consignment and the bus used for its transportation.
Accused Booked Under Excise Act
The individuals in charge of the bus, identified as 24-year-old driver Aashim Khan and 33-year-old conductor Salman Khan, were taken into custody. During interrogation, the duo failed to produce any valid licence or official permit authorising the transport of the alcohol. Consequently, the Vijay Nagar police have registered a case against both accused under the relevant sections of the Excise Act. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the source and intended destination of the illegal liquor.
This seizure highlights the continued vigilance of the Indore police against the illegal liquor trade, which causes significant revenue loss to the state and poses risks to public health and safety.
