In a significant blow to narcotics manufacturing in Rajasthan, a joint police operation has uncovered and dismantled a large-scale illegal drug factory operating from a house in Barmer district. The raid, conducted late on Thursday night, led to the seizure of a massive quantity of psychotropic substances, precursor chemicals, and sophisticated manufacturing equipment, with the total estimated value running into tens of crores of rupees.
Major Haul in Village Raid
Acting on specific intelligence received on December 18, combined teams from the District Special Team (DST), Sadar police station, and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) from Jodhpur targeted a residential property in Kerli village, located in the Adarsh Chawa area of Barmer. The covert operation revealed the house was being used as a clandestine laboratory for producing synthetic drugs.
The police recovery was substantial. Officials confiscated 39.77 kilograms of a methylenedioxy (MD) psychotropic substance in solid form. Additionally, they found 99.93 kilograms
Sophisticated Manufacturing Setup Uncovered
The raiding party discovered an extensive collection of apparatus used in the synthesis and processing of narcotics. The seized items included:
- Glass vessels and vacuum pumps
- Suction pipes and digital thermometers
- Grinders, furnaces, and churning machines
- Plastic tanks and an electronic weighing scale
This equipment indicates the unit had the capability to carry out complex chemical processes required for drug manufacturing. Two luxury vehicles were also found parked at the premises, suggesting the lucrative nature of the illegal trade.
Arrests and Manhunt for Mastermind
During the raid, the police managed to apprehend Bhairaram, son of Hanumanaram Jat, who is the owner of the house. He was arrested on the spot. However, the alleged kingpin of the operation, Motaram, son of Veermaram Jat, evaded capture and is currently absconding.
According to District Police Superintendent Narendra Singh Meena, Motaram fled the scene along with his associates. These have been identified as Dinesh Giri from Rawatsar and an unidentified army personnel. A massive manhunt is underway to trace and apprehend the escaped accused.
The police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Sadar police station. Superintendent Meena revealed that the seized contraband and materials are valued at approximately Rs 85 crore. He added that the recovered chemicals had the potential to manufacture additional MD drugs worth nearly Rs 50 crore, preventing a significant amount of narcotics from hitting the streets.
This operation marks a critical success for the Rajasthan Police and the NCB in their ongoing war against drug trafficking networks. The focus now is not only on capturing the fugitives but also on investigating and dismantling the wider supply chain and distribution network connected to this illicit factory.
