Rudrapur: Outrage Erupts Over Viral Video of Labourer Assaulted During Namaz
A deeply disturbing video that has gone viral on social media platforms has triggered widespread outrage and condemnation across Rudrapur and beyond. The footage, which emerged on Tuesday evening, purportedly shows a daily-wage labourer being subjected to a brutal physical assault while he was offering namaz in an open ground near the Atariya temple in Rudrapur city.

In the viral clip, the attacker, who claims association with the temple management, is seen aggressively approaching the labourer during his prayers. The assaulter proceeds to kick and punch the victim repeatedly, while also making highly objectionable and provocative remarks. The violence escalates further as the attacker is seen hitting the defenceless man with a stick, even as the victim pleads desperately for mercy.
Shockingly, the assaulter is also heard instructing an associate to video record the entire incident, suggesting a deliberate attempt to document and possibly disseminate the act of violence. The victim, identified as a labourer working at a nearby under-construction house, had reportedly gone to this secluded spot specifically to offer his prayers in peace.
Police Response and Official Statements
Local authorities have moved swiftly to address the volatile situation. Police are on high alert to prevent any escalation of tensions in the community. Senior Superintendent of Police (City) Uttam Singh Negi confirmed that an investigation is actively underway. "The matter is being investigated thoroughly. We have detained the accused individual, and strict legal actions will be taken against those found responsible," stated SP Negi.
In-charge Surendra Bisht from the Sidcul police outpost promptly reached the location following the incident and has initiated a formal inquiry into the assault. The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining law and order in the area.

In a later interaction with some media personnel, the attacker attempted to justify his actions by claiming, "Despite repeated warnings, the man had been offering namaz in front of the temple for the past three days."
