A 35-year-old sadhu named Vipin Kumar, who had been living at a temple in Kasganj for the past 15 years, was beaten to death following a dispute that erupted when he requested a man to operate a hand pump so he could drink water. Police confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that the accused, Kaushal Kumar, was arrested after the seer succumbed to his injuries during treatment late at night.
Details of the Incident
Vipin Kumar resided at a local temple in Nagla Peepal under the Kasganj Kotwali police station limits, along with his sister and brother-in-law. According to local residents, Vipin was heading to nearby Nagla Bharhpura shortly after noon when he felt thirsty. He asked Kaushal to draw water from a hand pump, which led to an argument between the two. At that time, villagers intervened, and the matter appeared to be resolved.
Later, around 3 pm, Vipin was on his way to attend a feast in a nearby village. While waiting for a taxi at Bharhpura crossing, Kaushal arrived at the spot and allegedly attacked him with a stick. The sudden assault knocked Vipin to the ground. The accused then allegedly struck him seven to eight times on the chest and back, and also kicked and punched him before bystanders rushed in and rescued the sadhu.
Medical Treatment and Death
The injured seer was taken to the district hospital, where doctors admitted him and initiated treatment. Medical professionals reported that he had sustained deep head injuries, along with injuries on his chest and back. Despite medical efforts, he died late at night during treatment.
