The arrested individuals have been identified as Ashok alias Kuppan, 36, and his wife Mayilu, 34, residents of Pandiyan Street in Ponnammapet. The deceased victim is Gopal, 40, who lived on Sunnambukara Street in the same neighborhood. According to police reports, the fatal altercation took place late on Saturday night, culminating in Gopal's death from stab wounds.

Gopal harbored suspicions that his wife, Vanitha, was involved in an extramarital relationship with Ashok. - Around 9 PM on Saturday, Gopal and Ashok engaged in a verbal argument and physical fight near the Chinna Mariamman temple before both parties retreated to their respective homes.
- Later that night, at approximately 11:30 PM, Ashok, accompanied by his wife Mayilu and brother-in-law Muniyappan, went to Gopal's residence to confront him directly.
