Security measures were dramatically intensified across the Sambalpur district court complex on Monday morning, following the receipt of a chilling bomb threat email the previous night. Authorities deployed bomb disposal squads, specialized K-9 dog units, and multiple metal detectors even before court proceedings commenced, creating a high-alert environment.
Widespread Security Deployment and Access Restrictions
Police forces swiftly tightened access control at several critical locations, including the district court itself, the SDJM court, the Superintendent of Police office, and adjacent parking areas. Entry was permitted only after rigorous identity verification procedures. Barricades were strategically erected at Kacheri Chowk, and both primary gates of the extensive court complex were placed under enhanced, continuous surveillance by security personnel.
Odia-Language Threat Email Prompts Overnight Response
The security escalation was a direct response to an email, composed in the Odia language, which arrived in the official inbox of the court registry around 11 PM on Sunday. The communication explicitly warned of a potential bomb attack targeting the court premises. Acting on this credible threat, police teams immediately rushed to the location and initiated a comprehensive overnight search operation.
The bomb disposal squad and the K-9 unit meticulously combed through multiple sections and buildings within the court complex throughout the night. Despite their thorough efforts, no suspicious objects or explosive devices were located, providing temporary relief but maintaining a state of high vigilance.
Official Statement and Ongoing Investigation
Additional Superintendent of Police Srimanta Barik confirmed that security protocols had been significantly strengthened since Sunday night in direct response to the threat. “Efforts are actively underway to trace the origin of the threat mail and to determine the precise motive behind it,” Barik stated, highlighting the priority of the investigation.
This incident is not isolated. As previously reported, similar threatening emails have targeted courts on at least two other occasions in recent days, indicating a concerning pattern that authorities are now urgently working to unravel and prevent from escalating further.
