In a significant development in Sambalpur, a pickup van transporting a large consignment of LPG cylinders overturned near Metakani dhaba on Sambalpur University road, under the jurisdiction of Burla police station, on Thursday. Following the accident, police swiftly arrested Manthan Prasad Mahato, a 27-year-old resident of the Burla Market area, in connection with the case. Burla SDPO Baleshwar Gidhi reported that police received information about the mishap around 8 am while a patrol team was on duty. Upon reaching the spot, officers discovered the overturned vehicle on the roadside, loaded with a substantial number of LPG cylinders.

Authorities seized a total of 161 cylinders from the vehicle, out of which 62 were filled with gas. During interrogation, Mahato confessed to operating an illegal gas storage facility at Atachakipada in Burla. Police have confirmed that this warehouse was unauthorized and suspect that the accused was involved in diverting cylinders for black-marketing purposes.
